Office Building on Korkeavuorenkatu
Korkeavuorenkatu 32–34

Korkeavuorenkatu 32 was originally built as the headquarters of Vuorenniska Oy in 1956 and Korkeavuorenkatu 34 as the headquarters of the Mutual Insurance Company Sampo in 1960. The façade, main porch and lobby of Korkeavuorenkatu 32 are protected. In the renovation project, the buildings were combined and the building was extended by 2.5 floors to the upper floors. The energy efficiency of the building was improved by installing solar panels on the roof. The buildings were equipped with modern office space and a restaurant on the street level. This complete renovation was completed in spring 2023. Hepaco acted as HVAC, electrical and energy engineer for the project.

Fitting the new building services under the suspended ceilings of the listed building floors was a demanding task, which was overcome by creating an accurate data model. The vertical technology routes were routed through the former chimney, the old smoke extraction shafts and the new shafts. The quality of the indoor air conditions in the building, which has a demanding office use, has been given great attention in the project; the ventilation was switched to distributed ventilation and the mechanical rooms were moved from the roof to the office and basement floors. The two additional floors have a large window area, so they were heated underfloor and cooled by a radiant air-conditioning system. On the lower floors, heating and cooling panels were used to achieve a high quality finish.

The project has been awarded the highest LEED environmental rating, Platinum, the requirements of which influenced the technical building solutions at the design stage.
